A Thought For The Week: No Other Gods From the Pastor: M. J. Seymour, Sr. It is written: “I am the LORD thy God, …
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” (Ex. 20:2, 3) This is the first commandment! The context
of the scripture reveals that the command is not a blanket command to the
world, for He is not the God of everyone without exception in this world. The
command is to His people. If He is your God, then you are not to have any
other god, or multiple gods in addition to Him. Despite this command, church
folk, like the nation of Israel, have been “defiled with their own works, and
went a whoring with their own inventions.” (Ps. 106:39) They have ignored the
command of God and unashamedly have brought other gods into their lives. In
the pursuit of their other gods, they have left the worship of the only true
and living God. Oh yes, I realize many will not own up to their evil deeds,
but it is just as so as if they confessed their sins. Fact is fact, confessed
or not! Now, what are some of those works and inventions
they have gone a whoring after? Some of their gods include sports, holidays,
recreations, self-appeasements, leisure, family, jobs, and money in general.
Is it not amazing how “sports” have become the new god on the block? Notice
how many church families have been pulled from church to attend sporting
activities. Holidays keep being connected with the weekend so that families
can take a three-day weekend away from the House of God. The fancy of all
kinds of recreations are far more enticing to some than the preaching of the
word of God. Church folk have invented all sorts of self-appeasements to
justify their abandonment of the worship of God. Can any of their inventions give them
eternal life? Can these distractions wash away their sins? They appease the
flesh, but can they appease the God of heaven unto the saving of the soul?
“Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the
time of your tribulation.” (Judges 10:14) Ask your invented god to save your
eternal soul, and what will be its reply? It is easy to forsake a God you
have not known! But, come to know the true God, and you will never be able to
invent anything that will ever replace Him. There is no God but One, and He
is the God of the saints. He is the hope of all their desires. He is their
all in all. The saints need no other gods!!! |

Danger of False Teachers Catholicism
Part 3 So far in this study we
have looked at the Catholic church and some of the doctrines they teach and
some of the atrocities they inflict on those that don't follow these
teachings. Today I will end this study by looking to the holy scripture to
see what our Lord had to say about the Catholic church in the end times. In Revelations chapter 17
John describes a “Great Harlot”. In verse 5 he tells us her name is “MYSTERY,
BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” In the beginning when the
Roman Emperor Constantine was getting things lined out for the start of his
church he wanted to please the Christians who were in the western part of his
kingdom and at the same time please the pagans in the east. To accomplish
this he brought the Chaldean priest, who had been in hiding, in and promised them that the church of
Rome would honor their religious holidays and traditions and he would promote
them to high ranking priest in the church, but they would replace the names
of their gods Ishtar and her son Tammuz with the names of Mary and her
son Jesus. Now please remember that
according to history, the Chaldean priest were the high priest of the
Babylonian Mystery religion talked about in the Old Testament. These same
Chaldean priest could trace their roots and their religion all the way back
to Nimrod. According to Genesis chapter 10 Nimrod was the great- grandson of
Noah, the grandson of Noah's son Ham and the son of Ham's son Cush. He was
also the king of Babel at the time of the “Tower of Babel” in chapter 11. With the Chaldean priest,
Constantine also brought the followers of other pagan religions such as the
Occult and the followers of the Greek and Roman gods of mythology. He made
the same promises to them. Now on the other hand
Constantine called the Christian leaders to meet with him in Rome.
Constantine saw that the Christians were growing greatly in number at this
time and out of fear that they would revolt and take over the empire. The
more the Romans persecuted the Christians the more their numbers increased.
So like the old saying goes “If you can't beat them, join them.” Constantine
to show that he was taking Christianity seriously forced his whole army to
wade into a river all at the same time
and dunk themselves under the water and declared that they had been
baptized. At this time there were
those Christians who were straying from the word of God and were tired of the
persecution from the Romans. They gave in to Constantine's promises and
accepted the co-worship with the pagans.
Now after these things
having been brought out is it any wonder that most of the statues, monuments,
churches, and cathedrals in Rome and all
around Europe and the rest of the world were at one time used by the
worshipers of pagan gods and goddess. The Roman church has taken these pagan
worship objects and temples and have given them a Christian theme. Is not this “THE
ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” mentioned above? Is it any wonder that the
Catholic church has been able to move into most of the pagan countries of the
world with no or little resistance. It has been proven that Catholicism
worked hand in hand with the Nazis in Europe to exterminate the Jews during
World War II. They played a roll with the Communist to topple countries
around the world during the Cold War. Many of the countries that are under
Roman Catholic rule are some of the poorest countries in the world while
their churches are filled with gold furnishings and statues. Next week Lord willing I
