Title: A Verse by Verse Study of Colossians.
Lesson 22 – Run your roots deep in your faith.

Text: Col. 2:9 – 10

      A. V. 9 "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily."

          1. This one single verse sums up so many others. In Christ the Godhead dwells. John 1:1, 14 paraphrased The Word was with God – the Word was God – and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us = In Christ we have God in the flesh in totality.

          2. The teachers of Gnosticism said there was no way Christ could not be both God and Man at the same time.

          3. Christ was not another deity along with God; instead, God's fullness was dwelling uniquely and supremely in Christ.

          4. The teachers of Gnosticism taught that Angels and heavenly bodies influenced peoples lives and therefore compared Christ to this but He was much more He was God in the flesh.

          5. These folks were into astrology, these things are not of God, but rather are of Satan. Horoscopes, astral charts, Ouija boards, spiritual practice, and the entire Zodiac system is contrary to the word of God.

          6. John 14:10 "Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works."

      B. V. 10 "And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:"

          1. The word "complete" means to level up until satisfied. When have Christ we need nothing else, outside of God there is nothing else except emptiness.

          2. These teachers of Gnosticism were full of emptiness and had nothing to offer or anything to say, just like the religionist of our day just full of emptiness.

          3. Colossians 2:8 "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." Even though men have these things they have nothing.

          4. If the fullness of the Godhead dwells in Christ and He in us and we in Him then what else do we need?

          5. This brings us to our "spiritual intelligence" we have all we need in our hearts with Christ, just study and it will flow from inside out.

          6. "which is the head of all principality and power:" this reminds us of Colossians 1:16-17 "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (17.) And he is before all things, and by him all things consist."
