The salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Heb. 2:9 – 11

Last Sunday morning I spoke from this text. The purpose of it was to show that salvation goes way beyond the religious worlds thinking. The religious world wants us to believe that salvation is of us, and this is absolutely untrue. Salvation is of the Lord! He owns it in totality! Salvation is in no way about or of us. If we look at the scripture’s and allow them to speak to us, we will find that salvation is the Lord’s to give as He pleases. Please take a quick look at the text we have today:

1. V. 10 “For it became him,”
What became Him? “Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death,” V.9 The word “became” means “it is fit or right”. So we see it was fit or right for our God to be made a little lower than the angels or His own creation to suffer the pain and humiliation of death in order to bring about salvation.

2. V. 10 “in bringing many sons unto glory,”
It is because of this gracious act that brought about the salvation of sinners. It was He that came to the world, made lower than His own creation, and suffered a humiliating death to save the souls of sinners. It is this act that brings in souls for His glory. If you are saved, your salvation will bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ. It is because of this act that not only brings glory to Him but also to us the believer.

3. V. 10 “the captain of their salvation”
The word “captain” means He is the author and finisher of our salvation. Jesus Christ is the owner of salvation. We all know what the word owner means; it means it is ours and only ours. The same meaning here, it is His to do as He pleases, remember, He is the one that bought it; He is the one Who paid for it, therefore by the rights of ownership He can to give it to whomever He pleases. The religious world of today has tried to take this glory away from the rightful owner and put in the unworthy hands of the sinner. The fact is He owns it and if an unworthy sinner wants salvation then he must go to the owner and ask for it. Let’s also remember He said, “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:15

4. V. 9 “crowned with glory and honour;”
This crown of glory and honor belongs to the one that won the victory, Jesus. Since Jesus made Himself lower than His own creation, Since He suffered a humiliating death, since He bought and paid for salvation and is the rightful owner of it, then our salvation brings glory only to Him. Every single unworthy soul that He saves is a glory to Him. The saved sinner is a “crown” or trophy (so to speak) for the Saviour. We only receive glory because of what He did for us.

5. V. 9 “that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.”
The death He tasted was the death I owed and you owed. He only by grace made Himself lower that His own creation and suffered a horrible death because that is the penalty we owed. This is what it took to save our souls from the bottomless pit of hell. He did it; therefore He is the owner of salvation. We have no right to take the glory due Him and put into the unworthy hands of sinners. Salvation is not mine, yours, or any mans to give, but rather salvation belongs to the Captain and can only be given to whom He chooses as He chooses. This is His glory and He is all worthy.

The conclusion is,
while some today do their best to give this glory away to man, it belongs to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He, the God and Creator of the heavens, the universe, the world and all that is in it, could not forgive the sinful nature of mankind without Himself becoming lower than His own creation and allowing His own creation (man and Satan) to crucify Him. The only remedy for our sin was this very act of grace. The next time someone tells you that salvation is in mans hands please remind them, it is Jesus that died, it is He that owns it, and it is He that will give it to whom He pleases. All glory is due Him and He will get that glory because He will save whom He pleases.
